Traditional Storage Tuning Techniques

Some traditional storage tuning techniques do not apply to applications or systems using the ioDrive.  These tuning techniques are often employed to help offset the effects of high-latency, low speed storage such as hard drives or low-end arrays of hard drives.

These include:
  • Hard drive or file system defragmentation
  • OS “elevator” algorithms for I/O scheduling
File System Defragmentation

Defragmentation can shorten the lifespan of your ioDrive and does not provide performance benefits.

Random reads and writes do not need to be coalesced or reordered to maximize performance.
