Avoiding Unmanaged Shutdown

If the ioDrive experiences an unmanaged shutdown due to power loss, system crash, or other reasons, the driver will take longer to load during the next reboot, up to several minutes per installed ioDrive.   This is needed for the ioDrive to run a consistency check.  When this occurs, the driver will report that it will need several minutes to rebuild management data, and that the user should not shut down or restart the system.

Examples:

Windows has a screen that indicates that the IoDrive was improperly shut down and that the utility must perform a consistency check.  Linux shows on the console what is occurring; however, without monitoring the console, it will not be obvious under Linux that the consistency check is occurring.

Other Notes:

At times after an unmanaged shutdown, customers report that the boot process is taking too long.  In some cases, this may look like a failed bootup.  The longer boot process is normal because the ioDrive is running a consistency check.
