Understanding the ioDrive External LEDs

ioDrive LED Indicators

The ioDrive includes three LEDs showing drive activity or error conditions:

These LEDs indicate:

NOTE: All three external LED indicators will light during an ioDrive firmware update process.

Using fio-beacon

You can use the fio-beacon command line utility in both Windows and Linux to light an ioDrive's three LEDs. This immediately shows the physical location of a particular device, especially if multiple ioDrives exist in a rack. However, the ioDrive must be detached for the LEDs to remain lit.

If the device is attached instead, and the user runs fio-beacon, the LEDs remain lit only until there's any read/write activity on the ioDrive. When this occurs, the three LEDs extinguish and return to showing the activity on the device. Since this read/write activity may occur within a second or two of running fio-beacon, it would not allow time to physically inspect the server or rack to locate the specific ioDrive.  Although an onscreen message will say that the beacon is "ON" and LEDs lit, the three LEDs are now actually off.
